The BTMA has asked the Bangladesh government to reduce the VAT on purchasing textile waste

The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) wants the government to remove taxes on buying textile waste and recycled cotton yarn. They also suggest creating a new code for recycled cotton to simplify taxes. They’re concerned that current taxes discourage using local recycled cotton. The garment industry makes a lot of waste, but only a small part gets recycled. If recycling increases, it could save money and make exports more competitive. The BTMA also wants the government to remove duties on the recycled textile industry to help it grow.
